Dictionary´s are usually lists of words with definitions for them and often includes the correct way to pronounce the word. Many programs that work with text especially word processors use dictionary's as parts of there spell checking, these differ from an online or written dictionary in that there are no definitions but a list of words, these files have the .dic file extension and are known as dictionary file.
