Autodesk Inventor is a CAD program that is used for creating 3D prototypes that are used for analysis, simulation and virtualization when developing mechanical products. The program uses files that are known as Inventor Desktop Content Libraries which have the file extension .idcl these are libraries used by the program which total seven in all which contain resources needed for projects in the form of a database file, the resources can be such things as nut and bolts and pipes etc.
