Secure/Multi purpose Internet Mail Extension also known as S/MIME is a standard used for encryption and the signing of mime data, it was originally developed by RSA Data Security Inc. To be able to read smime files you need to use a viewer such as the p7mViewer from Cryptigo which uses files with the .p7m file extension.
