The digital business card  uses the extension .vcf and was introduced by a consortium which included IBM, Apple, Lucent and Siemens, this consortium was known as the Versit Consortium.

VCF files can be opened on Windows, Apple and Linux computers and windows computers is supported by the two main email programs Outlook and Thunderbird.
