Icons are small images that are used to represent files, folders, programs and devices on a computer. The .icns extension is used on Apple computers with Mac OS X as a icon resource file.
The file contains the icon or graphic used by the program etc. and when double clicked will open the program that it represents.
Normally it isnt possible to change the icon unless there are more than included in the file.
