IFF also known as Interchange File Format which uses the file extension .iff is a container format that was created by Electronic Arts and Commodore Amiga around 1985.This format was created to ease data transfer between software from different companies.

IFF files are made from chunks which begin with a Type ID then a 32bit unsigned integer. Group chunks that use predefined Type ID´s which are Form, List and Cat are also used

The top level structure of IFF files usually make use of one of the group chunks.
