The Sony Playstation 3 or PS3 is a gaming console from the Sony Corporation and is the third in the series of Playstation consoles. One of the features that the  PS3 has over its predecessors is the ability to have its system software updated over an internet connection, portable media and disc.

The files used to update the system software use the .pup file extension and should be be placed in the update folder of the PS3, both the folder name and update file name are written in uppercase.
