Virtual Fonts are used by TeX or LaTeX and are used to tell the program that simple character mapping isn't being used as is the case with one to one mapping, these files usually contain information for encoding and are used as interpreters and are then used by TeX as font files. Property List files that are used by TeX/LaTeX contain information used for creating the virtual fonts, these are ASCII files which use the .vpl file extension.
